Can Chinese Herbal Medicine Help Cure Endometriosis? The Chinese are well known for their ability to find herbal remedies for practically every known sickness and medical condition on earth, including endometriosis. Endometriosis is a female health problem that concerns the reproductive system. To briefly explain this condition, it happens when the endometrial tissue, the lining, which should only be found inside the uterus, finds its way into parts of the body outside of the uterus. This lining is what is expelled as blood when a women menstruates monthly. Thus, if it is found in other parts of the body, it will need to be expelled, except it has no way of leaving the body, and can end up causing pain from blockages, as well as excessive and prolonged bleeding. The Western world has yet to be fully convinced of the positive effects of herbal remedies, and it is only recently that acceptance has started to take place. The western solution is drugs and surgery. These are not even permanent solutions, because endometriosis can come back even with surgery. There are also side effects to drugs and surgery which cannot be ignored. The Chinese method of healing is herbal, and the best part about herbal is that there is little to no side effects. If there are any side effects, it is easily solved since the products used are herbal. In two recent studies done by Western medical experts, the group of women who were given herbal medicine, both as oral treatment and as enemas, reported to have less pain and fatigue. They also mentioned that these women did not experience more symptoms of endometriosis. The other group took Danazol which is a hormonal treatment, and they had experienced irregular periods, weight gain, and acne because of the hormone. Although this two studies are not indicative of the effects of herbal medicine to treat endometriosis, they are a good start. If you notice, there are more women in the Western world who experience endometriosis than there are Asian women. In the United States alone, around 5 million women suffer from this condition. In the United Kingdom, around 2 million women are affected by endometriosis. It should be noted though that since most Asian women take herbal remedies as a matter of course, this means that from a young age, they could already been exposed to herbal remedies. As such, their bodies are more or less, conditioned to accepting the herbal treatment. Before you consider any kind of Chinese medicine, you need to consult with your doctor because many Chinese herbal drugs do not compliment or work well with traditional Western medicine. There could be some conflict if not properly monitored. Finally, these two studies cannot be relied on as truth. Chinese herbal
medicine needs further scientific study. |
