Complications of Endometriosis

If you have been diagnosed with endometriosis, then you have a problem with your reproductive system. This means that your chances of getting pregnant is a little compromised. You need to ask your doctor at what stage of endometriosis you are in. This is very important because the lower your stage is, the better your chances of getting pregnant.

The problem with endometriosis and getting pregnant is the adhesions that tend to trap the egg from traveling to the fallopian tube to get fertilized.

Plus, since this condition can get worse, so the sooner you get pregnant, the better it will be for you. Not only because you will have succeeded in starting a family, but with pregnancy comes less signs of endometriosis. Women who are pregnant and women in their menopause stage are not likely to experience the symptoms of endometriosis. This is why contraceptive pills are usually prescribed.

However, some newly released research shows that endometriosis can cause birth complications such as premature birth. Of course, not enough study has been done on the subject but a pregnant women who has had a history of endometriosis should inform her doctor and be monitored regularly. It is also important for her to make sure to eat and rest properly.

With the partially blockages due to adhesions from endometriosis, other complications may arise such as bowel obstruction. You could also have difficulty in urinating.

Another complication of endometriosis is the stress factor. You will go through heavy bleeding especially if you are in the moderate to severe stages of endometriosis. The pain you experience can also create a stressful situation which can hamper your productivity and cause depression.

If you have a regular job or a family to raise, the symptoms of endometriosis could make it difficult for you to meet the demands on your time. This could compromise your income and start problems with your relationships.

Speaking of relationship. If you are not yet married but have a partner, sexual activities can bring about level of pain that will make it uncomfortable to unbearable.

There are some documented cases of cancer developing because of endometriosis. This is not generally the case, but it has been known to happen. If it does, endometriosis is not the sole reason for the cancer, and could likely be a secondary or even negligible cause.

If you know that you have endometriosis, the best action you can take is to have treatment started immediately. This condition can worsen if not attended, thus, avoiding the issue will cause a bigger problem in the end.
